Captain Degzy, whose real name is Adeoluwa Owu, is a well-known figure in Nigerian film. His remarkable abilities as a director of photography and TV/film director have brought him recognition both domestically in Nigeria and abroad.

His movie “The Griot” won the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2021’s Oronto Douglas Award for Best Nigerian Film. Collaborations with international brands like the BBC, Beyonce’s Black is King album, and CNN Paths Unknown (Anthony Bourdain) are included in his portfolio.

Owu’s work demonstrates his love of telling stories and his dedication to truthfully presenting African and Nigerian culture in international motion pictures and entertainment. For three years in a row, he was named one of the Top 5 Notable Directors of Photography in the Nigerian Box Office by FilmOne’s The Nigerian Box Office Yearbook (2020, 2021, and 2022).

Among the many movies in his vast collection are “A Tribe Called Judah,” “Adire,” “University Of Cruise,” “What No One Knows,” “The Griot,” and “Blind Date.” Films like “The Anomalous,” “Jagun Jagun (The Warrior),” “Shanty Town,” and “Battle on Buka Street” represent some of his contributions to cinema.

The film he directed “A Tribe Called Judah” broke box office records in 2023 when it made over ₦1 billion in its first twenty days of release. His work on “Adire,” the first independent original film from FilmOne Studios, which is presently streaming on Netflix, has received praise for its realistic narrative.
